Conference Cycle: “Rappresentazioni, Cineforum”

A "Gen Z Votes!" local initiative

Cinema has a great potential to address the topics which most concern us in our everyday life, and the power to change the perspective of its audience if done correctly. In this event, students from Collegio Einaudi of Turin, will attend a Conference Cycle based on Cinema where they will discuss topics such as representation and personal growth as the same time as technical and historical issues. On this first session, the students will be especially focused on European identity, democracy, and the importance of being an active citizen. Centered on “La Haine”, a French film by director Mathieu Kassovitz, the students will debate among themselves about what they have just seen. As this movie is based on the themes of police brutality, extremism, authoritarianism, and young people's involvement in protests and politics, the students will talk about this topics and many more that will arise after the projection. Before this debate, however, everyone will receive a brief explanation regarding the personal story on which the film is based, the historical importance of the movie, and the controversy it opened. The debate will last a maximum of 30 minutes where the students will be encouraged to participate in a discussion on the themes of authoritarianism and the importance of political involvement for young people. The debate will also be correlated to the recent protests in France. At the end of the discussion, all the participants will be reminded of the dates of the European Elections and will be invited to vote in them.
